My ultimate goal is to make therapy a safe space for anyone who wants to not only work on themselves but to learn new skills. I am passionate about ensuring that anyone who has dealt with challenges or has been marginalized because of their identity has an affirming space and inclusive space to work in. As a psychologist I understand that I have expertise and skills in mental health however you are the expert in your life! I take a collaborative approach that incorporates my skills and expertise with your knowledge of your strengths as well as areas of growth. I believe that therapy is a space for safety as well as space to grow and be challenged to break out of old patterns or habits. I know that in coming to therapy you want more than just fluff, you want someone who will help you create real long lasting change. I approach therapy with a real, honest, raw, and humorous approach that allows for moments of levity while also making sure we tackle your concerns together. I believe that skills are best learned both in and out of treatment. I assign homework and practice throughout the course of therapy to make sure your skills are more than just conversation in session.
I utilize an integrative approach to therapy using evidence-based interventions that not only take into account your thoughts but also highlight your behaviors, emotions, and experiences. This combination of approaches allows me to better understand and address your concerns through personalized treatment plans and ensure that any treatment used is focused on customizing it to your needs. I work to ensure that all individuals and family members involved in treatment have their voices heard as well as understand the impact of all environments and people they interact with. Additionally, I utilize behaviorally based interventions to develop well-defined and easy to implement behavior plans for individuals and families struggling with problem behaviors or stressful routines.
I also enjoy working with caregivers and families experiencing difficulty with problem behaviors, tantrums through Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT).
Are you wondering if you and your family may be a good fit for Parent-Child Interaction Therapy?
“This was a great presentation-I think parents and non-psych related professionals or individuals would definitely benefit from this presentation!”
“This was one of my first formal training on being an affirmative clinician. I like how Dr. Deming spent time discussing background information before introducing interventions, because it provided a lot of understanding and background information. As someone who works primarily with young children, seeing the video about younger kids having an understanding of sexual orientation was really influential.”
“…I feel like this training opened my mind to the world. I didn’t understand a lot of the terms of all the terminology of the LGBTQ+ community but this training really helped. “
“As a member of the queer community, I enjoy attending sessions as such. It gives me hope seeing how many people are trying to become more informed. Dr. Deming did an amazing job at doing such.”
